HOW TO BECOME A FOSTER PARENT

A foster parent is an adult over 21 years old that is willing to open their home to a child or children who have been removed from their caretakers because of abuse or neglect.  The children are made wards of the state, and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services makes all legal decisions while the foster parent is responsible for their day to day care. The foster parent receives money from the state for the maintenance of the child(ren).  Usually foster care is temporary and lasts until the child is safely reunited with its original caretaker or is released by the court for adoption or subgardianship.  To find out more call Nicela Guy at (312) 455-0007, Ext. 658
